I was blessed with parents who encouraged creativity. From an early age I was given carte blanche to create my own space, which meant frequently repainting walls based upon whatever whim inspired me. I was happiest while my hands and mind were engaged with creative tasks. My childhood home wasn't fancy, but it was warm and cozy. Mom and Dad appreciated "old" well-made items long before it was fashionable. Their budget was limited, but their creativity was not. Discarded items were turned into treasures and I learned how to "see" beyond cosmetic appearances and appreciate good bones.
I changed paths a bit in college and studied Political Science and Law, along with a smattering of art and photography classes. Upon graduating I worked as a Senate Aide on Beacon Hill and in 1987 deferred entry to law school to pursue more creative endeavors. I loved my years on The Hill but felt the pull to try something new... it was time to get my hands dirty, again!
I co-owned a bridal retail business in Natick, MA where, as a small business owner, I experienced the joy and challenge of wearing many hats... creating window and floor displays; making decisions about advertising, marketing, and inventory purchases; and managing staff. Over the last 15+ years I have redesigned spaces for retail, living, special occasions, open houses, and in preparation for going to market.
I had opportunities to explore different areas of our country and enjoyed living in Northern California and Seattle, WA. Experience as a realtor taught me a great deal about what motivates buyers... welcoming spaces! Again, thanks to Mom and Dad I had a head start on creating warm environments. I learned many tricks and tips from lots of talented "teachers" along the way. There is tremendous enjoyment in doing what you love. While I pursue my passion for home staging and design, homeowners are benefiting from a warm environment, not to mention a great return on their investment.
In my free time I relish the company of family and friends. A perfect weekend means slowing down to enjoy a casual gathering and a great meal. Sharing adventures of traveling with my husband and kids as well as exploring and learning about different cultures are pleasures, too. I enjoy great books, trade magazines, antique hunting, auctions, gardening, photography, and painting. There are always so many new things to learn about and discover!
Mom and Dad taught another important lesson-"pay it forward." Through the years I have supported many local causes. The most recent endeavor was participating in the annual ASP staging event where BIRC (Boston Chapter of Home Staging Professionals) donated a makeover to the Home for Little Wanderers home in Roxbury, MA. Mom and Dad were right again... the rewards of giving are far greater than receiving!
